6 business fields highly likely to boom in the 2020’s
Francesca Brady

Everyone’s trying to predict the ‘next big thing’, but in reality the majority of the most promising technologies of tomorrow are probably already right before our eyes. New business specialisations have been rapidly emerging over the past several years, replacing hot business fields at a tremendous pace. Early adopters of the best new tech could end up being the leaders of tomorrow’s business landscape.

Based on the current levels of interest and emerging breakthroughs, we think the following technologies are likely to become major economic forces in the 2020’s:

A.I. deep neural networks

Self-improving software modules called ‘deep neural networks’ are capable of gradually refining their accuracy. They are already being developed for a wide range of purposes, and are likely to become more widespread in the near future. While neural networks may fall short of the definition of a true “AI”, their value is undeniable.

On-demand services

Cloud computing allows users to utilise resources such as servers, databases, software, storage etc when and where needed. There is no shortage of companies using these services today, from Netflix to Skype, WhatsApp and Dropbox,  but the market for these kinds of product is likely to continue to grow over the next decade.

Visual Mapping

Virtual representations of real-life objects can be used for a range of applications, from remote monitoring to automation. Modern day interactive visual maps are intuitive, user-friendly and provide real-time data. Companies focused on production of interactive tools have a bright future, the recent successes of Asset Mapping is a good example.

Internet of Things (IoT)

Protocols for communication between inanimate objects are undeniably useful across a broad number of industries, creating a strong market for IoT technologies. Some of the current applications include asset monitoring, safety, security and optimisation. With a large number of other uses in experimental stage, we can expect IoT to become omnipresent in our lives pretty soon.

3D Printing

The latest models of 3D printers are powerful, affordable and fast - all factors which have allowed this technology to become more mainstream. We have already witnessed a myriad of creative uses, from manufacturing medical aids to applications across the fashion, automotive and aerospace industries. Recent advances in direct metal printing (DMP) offer consistently high levels of precision and could transform traditional manufacturing by speeding up processes and reducing cost.

Data security

The transition to digital business raises the stakes for data security companies and makes their services become even more relevant. As the number and sophistication level of threats continues to increase, the global marketplace for effective security solutions will continue to grow.

You don’t have to wait until 2020 to upgrade your technological capacities. Asset Mapping can help you to improve your building today; from increasing the life of your equipment and reducing running cost to optimising the indoor environment to enhance the productivity of your team.
