6 key inventions that made Asset Mapping possible
Francesca Brady

Technological development can be explained as a chain reaction, with certain discoveries steering research in many different directions. What appears on the surface to be an independent technology can indeed be an amalgam of numerous concepts that made its final form possible, even if the elements are now firmly merged together. Modern digital mapping and visualisation services represent a great example – companies like Asset Mapping would never be able to develop their technology without a wide array of earlier inventions.

Here is a brief overview of some of the technologies that form the backbone of asset mappings innovative solution:

Micro sensors

Small and compact sensors, used for reading current room temperature and the chemical composition of gasses alongside a number of other factors.  This technology enables the detection of factors such as high levels of CO2, which can reduce your teams cognitive and decision-making performance.

Cloud computing

Remote servers in the cloud provide the power that makes it possible to unify incoming data from multiple locations and produce coherent building maps. Solutions with this type of architecture are typically used for modern mapping applications due to their low deployment costs.

Wi-Fi

First introduced in 1998, this simple and affordable technology that we often take for granted facilitates broad interoperability between various types of devices and eliminates the need for cables.

Device-to-device (D2D) communication protocols

Automatic communication between parts of the network that appear on the visual map is enabled by protocols that direct data flows and determine priority levels. Currently used protocols were developed in the late 1990’s and they are constantly being refined.

Smart phones

A major advantage of visual mapping solutions is the ability to access and update preferences from a mobile device from any location.

Interactive graphics

A primary challenge can be how to present data so that every user can access exactly the level of detail needed. Smart design that allows users to click on objects within the network and read the associated data is an effective and accessible solution for this problem.

Today, all of the technologies described above are integrated into intuitive systems for data visualisation and management. Asset Mapping is capable of designing, customising and deploying a visual map that schematically represents your buildings and key equipment. The Asset Mapping team has extensive experience with projects of this kind and is happy to put its accumulated expertise at your disposal!
